At Dentistry on West, we believe that the key to exceptional dental care is early detection and accurate diagnosis. Dental X-rays are an important tool that allow us to see beyond what is visible to the naked eye, giving us a complete picture of your oral health.

While a visual examination can identify many dental concerns, X-rays help reveal beneath the surface, such as:

– Cavities
– Infections or abscesses in the roots
– Impacted teeth
– Developmental issues in children and teens

Some patients are concerned about the radiation dosage from x-rays. There is natural background radiation which amounts to about .005 mSv a day. This is the same as what you would get from taking one dental x-ray. A larger panoramic film is similar to about 3 days of natural background radiation. You can see comparisons to other x-rays and dosages on this chart: Radiation Equivalencies
